Her

“You’re so beautiful”, I think to myself, as I gaze adoringly at her. Thick, wavy, black locks fall to her shoulders, framing her perfectly shaped oval face. Her eyes bore into mine, glossed over with a sheen of tears, waiting to fall. I could see my outline reflected in her ocean blue irises. Her pupils swelled, and the light danced in her eyes. My eyes continued to wander down her face. A gorgeous splattering of freckles kissed her dainty button nose, and her full, plump lips, lightly covered with a deep pink lipstick were begging to be brushed against mine.

Autumn

The dying leaves on the deciduous trees mark the start of autumn. I trudge along the well-worn footpath, which is almost completely hidden by a sea of burnt orange cast-offs and mud. Maple trees hug the footpath as far as the eye can see. My eyes fixate on the sun’s rays, glimmering through the towering, intertwined branches, dancing upon everything they touch whilst illuminating the clearing, almost as an afterthought. A slight breeze unleashes a hazy, crisp storm of leaves that descend around me. Effortlessly; an energetic gust of wind elevates and then disperses them in a seemingly chaotic manner.

Safety Blanket

Droplets of water vapour swirl in chaotic splendour, emanating into a thick, dense cloud of steam, suffocating the room. I almost choke upon it and my eyes brim with tears. Submerging my head underneath the cascading waterfall of rain, the scalding water carries away my tears and burns off the last of your touches. The tenderness of my blistering skin brings the end of the overpowering numbness I’ve felt since you left. The water encapsulates me, protecting me like the safety blanket you once were to me. But showers end and cannot promise me the eternal security like you did.
